Do you offer private lessons or group?
We offer private lessons. We strongly feel that private lessons are the best because they can teach students at their own pace and give them the attention they need to develop their musical skills.

What are the rates?
$27 half an hour/$54 hour. We offer convenient monthly pricing (see below)
$117 per month for half an hour lessons
$174 per month for forty five minute lessons
$225 per month for one hour lessons

How long does it take to learn an instrument?
There is no set answer of how long it takes to learn an instrument. With regular practice a basic level of playing can be accomplished in a few months. Most of our students take lessons on a long term basis because they want to be constantly improving and they find the lessons enjoyable.

Do you take children?
Yes. 5 and over

Do you take all styles?
Yes.

Do you take beginners?
Absolutely! Most of our students have started here as beginners.

Can I meet the instructor prior to signing up for lessons?
Yes thought we encourage people to take one half-hour introductory lesson for $27 to see if they like the format. This gives the student an idea of what they can expect. We also have video lessons of all our instructors here.

Do you teach during the summer?
Yes. We are open year round.

Do you charge a registration fee?
NO!

There are no hidden fees other than your normal lesson fee?
NO!

What are your hours?
Monday-Thursday 11:00am- 9:30pm, Friday 2:00-7:00, Saturday 10:00-5:30. 

Piano

Do I need a piano at home to take piano lessons?
It is ideal if you do have a piano at home, but you can start lessons with our piano teachers by using an electric keyboard to practice on. Most of our students rent or buy small electric keyboards practice on at home. We recommend a keyboard that has regular sized keys and a touch sensitive response. A touch sensitive keyboard means if you press a key harder it will play louder and if you press a key softer it will play quieter.

Yes 5 and over.

What books will I need to start?
We usually have people start with the Alfred series which we sell here.

Drums

Do I need a full drum set to take drum lessons?
No you do not need a full drum set to start drum lessons. Students can start lessons by using a practice pad. This is a small dinner plate sized pad that costs $20-$30 that is used for practicing basic drum rhythms.

Guitar FAQ's

Do you teach acoustic or electric?
Both.

Do you teach students to read music?
Yes we do, but we do not require it and we don't teach it to beginner students. In the beginning, we feel it is more important to get familiar with the mechanics of the instrument (This can be a challenge itself) and to start making music rather than worrying about whether the note is C or C#.  In this case, we will use TAB which is very easy to understand.

What do I need for my first lesson?
Bring your guitar and any other materials you have been studying. You DON’T need to bring an amp or cable as we have them here. 

Do I need a guitar to start?
The short answer is yes. You will need to work on the assignments given by your instructor with your guitar. However, it is possible to do an introductory lesson without a guitar.

Do you recommend acoustic or electric guitar to start off with?
There is a myth that acoustic guitar is easier to play; this is absolutely NOT TRUE. An electric guitar has smaller/thinner strings that are easier to get sound out of, and the string height is almost always lower, enabling easier fretting. Outside of that, we suggest getting a guitar that is close to the music that you want to play. For example, if you are playing heavy metal, an electric guitar would be appropriate if you are playing folk music, and acoustic guitar would be appropriate.

Do you rent guitars?
As of now, no. There hasn’t been any real demand for it. The good news is guitar starter packs are pretty cheap and retain their value pretty well. So if you find that you don’t stick with it, you will be able to get most of your money back by selling it.

We sell metronomes, tuners, strings, and other guitar accessories here at North Main Music. For guitar starter packs, I recommend Guitar Center on DW Highway in Nashua. They have great stock and helpful salespeople.
