Are you interested in bluegrass music and want to explore the sound of the dobro? The dobro, or resophonic guitar, is a type of guitar that is usually played on the lap with a steel tonebar or slide. Dobros are typically made of wood and feature a metal resonator built into the body, which amplifies the sound and gives the instrument much of its special character. The dobro is the acoustic ancestor of the modern pedal steel guitar and is most commonly featured in Hawaiian music, early country music, and bluegrass. However, modern dobro masters typically defy categorization as they deftly blur the lines between genres. Dobro instruction at North Main Music covers styles such as bluegrass, delta blues, folk and ragtime.
